REFUGEES SEEN BY FLUENCY MC

I'm sure many of you've heard about FLUENCY MC, because I often use some of his videos in our classroom.

Anyway, let me tell you that he's an English teacher, but a very creative English one. He raps English grammar and vocabulary lessons, and also goes around the world showing what he does.

Yesterday I watched one of his latest videos and creations, and I thought at once, that I have to show it to my students.

It's about the question of REFUGEES and how they're being treated by different countries' governments. The original poem was written by Brian Bilston, who is very famous on Twitter.

There're some activities that you can do with this rap song:

  1. Read the poem how it's indicated in the video.
  2. Work with unknown words.
  3. Discuss about the topic, the poem style and the social impact of it.
  4. Sing the rap song.
Now, let's watch the video:

SOME HELP FOR YOUR ENVIRONMENTAL CLASSROOM

Resultado de imagen de environmentally friendly

I've always thought that being environmentally friendly should be obligatory for everyone, so we, as teachers, have a duty to enhance our students to do it, too.

But, what means to be environmentally friendly? Let's say that it deals with respecting the environment, having a lifestyle that benefits it in different ways.

It isn't about vast projects, but about taking some small steps that helps our mother earth to recover from human damage.

Yesterday, while reading the paper, I came across an article about environment awareness at school, so I thought I should share it with all of you that are concerned about it.

EVALUATION: EVALUABLE LEARNING STANDARDS AND ALL THEIR FRIENDS.

Resultado de imagen de evaluation

The new law on education (LOMCE) meant some changes that still today, many months after it was passed, make us, teachers, wonder how to deal with them.

One of these changes relates to evaluation. The most repeated term in teacher rooms lately is, undoubtedly, evaluable learning standards!!!!

Resultado de imagen de GETTING MAD

I think I found the way to work with them, so I'd like to share how I 've got it, so you can also try and check if it works with you, too.

All of us know that evaluable learning standards are the specifications of evaluation criteria, that is, they explain what the student has to do to pass the evaluation . But the question is how to do it, how to relate these standards with the real evaluation, with what we demand from students to learn, with how we plan our tests ...

Resultado de imagen de GETTING MAD

Ok, don't get angry, I'll explain it right now ...

The new law gives us the contents of English language divided into four blocks. These four blocks coincide with the traditional four skills a student has to develop.

What I've done is to relate the evaluation criteria and their standards to the different skills and to give them the points I'll use for each part in the written and oral tests.

As you can see the evaluation criteria relate to their standards, and at the same time they are divided into the different skills. Evaluation criteria also show the area objetives and the key competences which they refer to. From these standards I choose the ones that indicate what I want to evaluate in each unit. Each skill has its own mark, that is the addition of the different points I give to each standard.

For example:

Imagine I plan a test for the 2nd term. It's made of the four parts or skills my students need to adquire. The mark (over 10) is divided into the following sections:

WRITTEN COMPREHENSION (block 3): 3 points.
WRITTEN EXPRESSION (block 4): 3 points.
ORAL COMPREHENSION (block 1): 2 points.
ORAL EXPRESSION (block 2): 2 points.

Depending on the number of standards I take for each part, I'll give points to them. If I use two standards for written comprehension, I'll give each 1.5 points, so they make the 3 points given to this skill, and so on.

We, as teachers, can plan the different standards we want to consider, depending on the level of the group. So it's a question of time and design, because each teacher can draw different standards on a specific group.

Next, I 'll show you how to mark each part of these tests in which I use the different standards:

*      Prueba escrita (6 puntos):

Comprensión escrita sobre un texto. 2 puntos (0.2 x 10 cuestiones)
