Reading is a perfect activity to learn vocabulary, but why not to play to be writers o strorytellers?
Recently, I've been brooding on how to make you, my students, create your own stories, and finally, I've come across a website which I've loved from the first time I saw it.
So, definitely, it was love at first sight!!!!

It's time to start preparing activities for Christmas at school.
You can find below some ideas I'm going to work with:
Project CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD:

Group students in groups of 3/4 and make them choose one country. Their task is to search information and pictures in the Internet about how Christmas time is celebrated in the different countries they've chosen.
They have to print the pictures in colour and write captions in English for each picture. These captions have to describe what is in the pictures.
Glue all the pictures and captions in a big poster that you can make with red paper.
The different groups have to present the information they have compiled to the rest of the classroom.
A contest of SHORT STORIES ABOUT CHRISTMAS:

It's an idea for higher level groups whose students are able to write in a proper English. You can provide some prompts so they can create their stories from them.
You can evaluate these stories by giving positive points or with quantity marks.

Choose some classic Christmas film extracts and get your students to create the subtitles for them or to record the dubbed dialogues.
It's a very funny and entertaining activity which help your students to improve their oral production in English.

My students of 3rd and 4th ESO at IES Ilipa Magna (Alcalá del Río, Seville) have made a big poster with different images taken from campaigns carried out in several Spanish-speaking countries. They have also translated into English some of the sentences as a message in this relevant day.

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is November 25 because that day in 1960, three sisters, Patria Mercedes Mirabal, María Argentina Minerva Mirabal and Antonia María Teresa Mirabal,

were assassinated in the Dominican Republic on the orders of the ruler Rafael Trujillo.

These three brave women fought hard to end Trujillo's dictatorship, and since they were killed for standing up for their rights as free citizens, they became a symbol for activists on women's right since 1981.

November 25 was designated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by the UN General Assembly on December 17, 1999. Since then, many different events are organized around the world to eradicate this social scourge.
However, all of us have the responsability to respect equality between sexes and act accordingly to that basic principle.
To fulfill this aim we need to know some facts about that day:
WHAT DOES "VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN" MEAN:

It means any act of gender-based violence that results in physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occuring in public or private life. (source: https://marciokenobi.wordpress.com).
BUT WHAT ELSE IS "VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN":
IT IS:
a human rights violation.
a consequence of discrimination against women, in law and also in practice, and of persisting inequalities between men and women.
IT ALSO IMPEDES:
progress in many areas, including
* poverty eradication
* combating HIV/AIDS.
peace.
security.
IT IS NOT INEVITABLE, BECAUSE PREVENTION IS POSSIBLE AND ESSENTIAL.
IT IS A GLOBAL PANDEMIC, SINCE UP TO 70 PER CENT OF WOMEN EXPERIENCE VIOLENCE IN THEIR LIFETIME.

UP TO NOVEMBER, 44 WOMEN HAVE BEEN ASSESSINATED BY MEN IN SPAIN.
4th ESO Students, IES Ilipa Magna, Alcalá del Río, have built an original graveyard celebrating the most famous British and American celebrities who passed away in the past.
Maybe, they all are going to party tomorrow night!!!!!!
